Is back pain causing you to do poorly at work?

August 25th, 2008 by LloydChiro

The American Productivity Audit surveyed 29,000 workers to see how pain affects the way that they work. How much does pain affect performance? How much does pain cost employers?

They looked at:

  • headaches
  • arthritis
  • back pain
  • other musculoskeletal pain

Workers were asked if the pain:

  • caused them to loose concentration
  • to repeat jobs
  • to do nothing (not work)
  • to feel fatigued at work

They calculated that the lost productive time due to pain at work totaled $61,000,000,000.  Other studies have said that loss of production from presenteeism is worse than absenteeism. Presenteeism is physically being at work, but not able to work because of being ill orbeing in pain.

1.1% of the population is missing 1 or more days per week from work due to pain.

If you are an employer, and you feel that many of your workers are missing time or misusing time because many of them are in pain throughout the day, Wellness Chiropractic may be able to help. We can help set up wellness mini-seminars to talk about preventative measures for workers, while avoiding planting the seeds in worker’s minds that they are falsely experiencing a worker’s compensation claim (we don’t treat work comp.)  We would be happy to present to your employees or management a 30-45 minute presentation.

If you are a worker, and you feel that physical pain is getting in the way of your life, we can help.  Call us up for a free consultation.  We can determine if we can help, adnwe can give you a diagnosis to work with.
