Key Findings of a Neck Pain Study

March 4th, 2008 by LloydChiro

In February 2008, Scott Haldeman, DC, MD, PhD, FRCP(C), president of the neck pain task force presented the results of a seven-year study revealing the safety and effectiveness of treatments for neck pain.

This seven year study found:

  • Chiropractic treatment of neck pain presents no added risk of stroke when compared to treatment by medical providers. [The incidence of stroke with chiropractic care is so low, that is almost unmeasurable.  I've never known any chiropractor to have a patient suffer from a stroke after having care.]
  • In very rare cases, neck pain or headache may be a symptom of a pre-existing condition that may indicate that a stroke is about to occur.
  • Chiropractic adjustments were found to be safe and effective for the treatment of the most common types of neck pain.  Most people who have neck pain, and do not get treatment tend to have future episodes of pain in the following years.  It seems to be important to get the proper treatment when first getting neck pain.
