If you think you need surgery for your back pain, you need to try conservative care like chiropractic first. This is the recommendation of guidelines published by University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health Plan.
Chiropractic care is conservative care of the spine. With chiropractic care, you receive adjustments to the spine that improve your spine’s range of motion. This extra movement, indeed the normal movement, helps to flush away stagnant, irritating chemicals that build up in dysfunctional parts, and the movement bathes the joints with more nutrients. The nutrients you receive in the soft tissues in your joints helps your body heal itself from the inside-out. You are using your body’s own intrinsic medicine to heal inflammatory and damaged discs and joints in the spine.
The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center recognizes that this better function of the spine using conservative care is an important first step for caring for chronic back pain. Jumping into surgery too soon is imprudent. Once you cut into the spine, you can’t undo it, and the results you might get from surgery are uncertain.
Under their new guidelines, if you are considering surgery for your low back pain, you must have at least three months of conservative care for your back before they will even look at your eligibility for surgery. You also must be educated on how to better care for your spine through one of their back care programs.
In our chiropractic clinic, The Joint Cottonwood Heights in Salt Lake City, we provide this conservative chiropractic care that is both affordable and convenient. We keep open hours that extend into the evening (7:00pm), and we don’t take appointments. You walk in to see us as needed. Our care is very affordable too; our first visit fee is only $19.00. If you live in Salt Lake City and have back pain, you should give us a try first before you undergo more expensive and invasive types of treatments.

great advice Dr. Lloyd! I have seen so many failed back surgeries over the years. Some stats show surgery is less than 50% successful and they consider a success 1 to 5 years of relief. Then those need another surgery with further risks of surgery.
I highly recommend any patient try anything before putting their body in harm’s way with surgery. Chiropractic has the highest success rates with back pain.. without the risks of surgery or medications.
