This study published in the scientific journal JMPT shows us that shoulder problems can come form bad posture in the ribs and mid back. These researchers gave chiropractic care to the thoracic spine and the rib cage. After they adjusted their patients, they found that even though they didn’t work on the shoulder, the shoulder pain was reduced, and the shoulder range of motion was increased.
The shoulder is a very muscular joint. It has a very wide range of motion that it articulates through. It relies heavily on the microcontrol of the muscles that surround the joint. With its full range of motion, it can’t use tough fibrous ligaments like other joints do in the other parts of the body.
If the mid back is hunched, and you’ve got stiffness or pain in the shoulder blades, it will affect the way the nervous system uses the muscles in the shoulders. The shoulders will roll forward. This rolled-in posture puts extra stress on certain parts of the joint surface in the shoulder, and repetitive injury to the bursa sac and other soft tissues surrounding the shoulder joint. Because all of the muscles get shut down neurologically, everything becomes weaker.
Chiropractic care is an important treatment for people with mild shoulder problems. When you catch a developing shoulder problem before it gets worse, you can do a lot of it.
