Chiropractic College Requirements vs. Medical School
It’s interesting to talk to people about their perceptions of education. This is particularly poignant in the case of chiropractic college verses medical school. People think that the admissions requirements to get into medical school are extremely lofty, while the requirements to get into chiropractic college is to just have a pulse, a spine, and the matchbook on which the school advertises (joke, by the way.)
But no! On this website, the author shows us that chiropractic college requires more hours for admission. And, once you get in to school, more hours are required for your D.C. degree than is required for your M.D. degree. Take a look.
It’s not just us chiropractors that run into this problem. My Santa Rosa acupuncturist, Lorelle Saxena, who has her clinic right across the street from our chiropractic office in Santa Rosa has to deal with the problem of completing nearly as many hours as other doctoral programs, but only being awarded a Masters degree. They use to get an O.M.D. degree which allowed the title of “doctor”, but now with just as rigorous of an education, an acupuncturist can only get the M.S. degree.

MDs and DOs receive more training in toxico-pharmacology and emergency medicine, whereas DCs receive more training in anatomy, neurology and physiology.
