Are you drinking yourself fat?
Did you know that drinking sugary drinks can make you fat?

The New York city Department of Health is letting you know this with a new ad campaign. In the ads, a person is pouring a soft drink into a glass. As the drink pours out, it turns into human fat.

Many people don’t know this, but unless you quickly burn it off, the sugar that you eat or drink gets stored as fat in the body. If you have a 1500 calorie meal followed by a 500 calorie soft drink, you don’t stand a chance.
In essence, then, you are pouring on the pounds. You are packing away the fat. Not only that, but you are creating an environment inside your body that is highly inflammatory. The sugars and chemicals in a soft drink must get processed by the liver. This process leaves metabolic byproducts that oxidize and damage your cells. Normally when you have regular food, there are antioxidants that help the digestion and processing inside the body. Soft drinks don’t have that.

It’s not just sodas and mochas, though. Some of the more innocent looking drinks can pack away the lard. A 20 oz can of lemon flavored ice tea is full of high fructose corn suryp, and has 210 calories. A 20 oz sports drink has 120 calories.

Contrast this with eating an apple. An apple only has 60 calories and contains fiber. 8oz of apple juice has 120 calories, and it usually make you thirsty for even more. Even though it is natural sugars, they are still simple sugars and can make you fat.
We at Lloyd’s St. George Chiropractic Clinic recommend drinking water if you are thirsty.
