From the American Chiropractic Association:
“CNN Exposes Insurance Industry Bias Against Chiropractors
CNN has finally discovered what the Chiropractic profession has been living
with for many years. And they are doing something about it… reporting it
to the world. Chiropractors throughout the US are well aware of the
insurance industry’s continued actions that make getting their claims paid a
tortuous ordeal. We know that much of this is a deliberate attempt to
profit at the expense of the DC and patient. We also know that this claim
denial activity is harshly one sided against the Chiropractic profession.
This Monday (2-26-07) CNN and chiropractic advocate James Mathis will bring
this situation into the limelight. CNN will explore the major system the
insurance industry uses to deny claims.”
Claims denial form the insurance companies for automobile accidents is a huge problem for the chiropractic profession and the patients that get caught up in the mess. In years past, insurance companies would carefully consider any given individual claim that came across their desk. Now, however, they have streamlined their process by automatically feeding data into their computer systems, using software called “colossus.” With this software the insurance companies can systematically deny claims and letting treating doctors and suffering patients battle it out for even the most fundamental, minimal benefits for which they paid. The patients pay thousands for their policies, but do not get the proper return without a legal fight.
I look forward to viewing this report.
